Sophora japonica is a deciduous tree of the genus Sophora in the Fabaceae family. It is very tall and can grow to about 25 meters. The bark is gray-brown with cracks on it. The leaves are pinnately compound, similar to Robinia pseudoacacia, with enlarged petiole bases, variable stipules, and opposite leaflets. By June-July, it will also have yellowish flowers and are edible.
